Hannah Lost Her 1st Tooth

Hannah feels like she is the last one of all the kids she knows her age to have lost a tooth. She was so excited when her tooth finally started wiggling. It became quite a drawn out process, though. She worked on it a lot one day last week, and even let me have a go at it, but I guess it wasn't quite ready yet. So, for the rest of the week she wouldn't let anyone near her mouth. It was just barely hanging in there, and she agreed to let Uncle Mike take it out at family dinner last night. She was so impressed that he could do it without it even hurting one bit! She is convinced that it was because he's a dentist that he could do it painlessly. Here she is working on her tooth.

This morning she wanted to pose for another picture. It was so cute how excited she and Nikki both were to see if the tooth fairy had come. They were pretty impressed that she could come without waking them up. It must be her magic!

My kids were the last to loose their teeth too. They were also in 1st grade when they lost their teeth. I love it when they loose their 2 front teeth!

Here is the sugar cookie recipe, in case you don't look below. :)

Melt-in-your-mouth Sugar cookies

½ cup softened butter

½ cup shortening

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/8 teaspoon salt

3 egg yolks

½ teaspoon vanilla

1 ¾ cups plain flour

In a large mixing bowl beat the butter and shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high for 30 seconds. Add sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can, then stir in the remainder.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 300° for 15 minutes or until sides are set. (Do not let them get brown.) Cool on the cookie sheet for 1 minute then finish cooling on wire racks.

Makes about 60 cookies.

Wow - those are SUGAR cookies, notice that there is more sugar than flour in the recipe. I've never seen that before but I'm sure Nate's sweet tooth will enjoy it!
